U.N.B. Books & Pictures, Dr. Bailey & others : 1951-54. 1951 Jan. 5 - 1954 June 28.

Correspondence, book lists, memos, soundscribers, telegrams, certificates of posting, invoices, newspaper clippings and statements chiefly regarding the acquisition of books for the University of New Brunswick Library (Bonar Law Bennett Library) and the Old Manse Library (Newcastle, N.B.). Also discussed is Beaverbrook's desire to establish a music library at UNB; University Press of New Brunswick being awarded the contract for stamping "Beaverbrook Collection" on books and the price involved to carry out same; the need for new furniture and equipment in the library; the possibility of establishing a school of librarianship at UNB; the donation of books including Alice Millar's gift of books that belonged to R.B. Bennett and the preparation and success of the visit of the Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Elizabeth. (CONTINUED). (CONTINUES) Mention is also made of Lord Stanmore's refusal of an Honorary Degree from UNB; the hiring of a librarian (Barbara Gandy) for the Old Manse Library (Newcastle, N.B.); the unveiling of the Lord Bennett monument at Hopewell Cape; the receipt of additional Stanmore Papers; the possibility of purchasing property on University Avenue (Neill House); J.F. Toole's desire to "build-up" UNB's Graduate School; the receipt of old provincial newspapers from Premier John B. McNair and the promotion of French and English relations at UNB. There is some discussion regarding Beaverbrook Overseas Scholarships, in particular, finding a replacement on the selection committee for Dr. Bailey, proposed changes to the scholarship scheme and the names of the 1952 recipients.
